What is Dew Point Temperature ?

Dew point temperature is that temperature below which the water vapor of a certain volume of humid air will start to condense into liquid water under the condition of constant barometric pressure. In simple words, it is that temperature where air become saturated with water vapor and starts condensation.

It means that more low dew point temperature satisfies more dry condition and low moisture level.

Why Should Measure Dew Point Temperature ?

Measuring dew point temperature ensures you about the dryness of the air and gaseous compound and also for oil. You also comes to know about the moisture content in it which enables you to take the supervisory action to maintain the dryness.

Maintaining the dryness is most important part in industrial automation and power system. Excess water vapor may a massive cause of damage in machine tools and also in process.Excess water in the insulating oil of high voltage equipment, such as transformers and reactors, causes well known adverse effects. High moisture content will cause reduction in dielectric rigidity and migration of water into the insulating paper, with the risk of formation of bubbles and accelerated aging in the presence of high temperatures, thus jeopardizing the equipment life cycle and integrity. Therefore, for maintaining the moisture level in a constant ratio we must measure dew point temperature and moisture.

Working Principles of Dew Point Meters.

Measurement of dew point temperature is measuring the temperature at which dew forms. Conventionally, Dew point meter captures air / gas in its sample chamber and then cooled down the temperature till it starts condensation. When that happens; it records the temperature and that temperature is the dew point temperature of that captured sample.

Latest Dew point meters work differently; it uses a Capacitive Thin Film polymer sensor to measure the water vapor content and a temperature sensor to measure the actual sample temperature inside the captured air / gas and then perform mathematical calculations based on the algorithms of Meteorological Organization to find out the Dew Point temperature of that Captured sample.

The water vapor molecules which have entered into the pores can be measured through sensor that is integrated inside the dew point meter’s sampling chamber. The amount of water vapor molecules is directly proportional to the partial pressure of water vapor in the gas which is blown on the sensor, and that partial pressure of water vapor or moisture is intern depend on the amount of water vapor of the gas and the existing pressure of the given gas. Thus in order to know the actual amount of water vapor in the gas it is essential to know the pressure of the gas if it is measured within a pressure line, otherwise it is atmospheric pressure.

Calibration Procedure of "Excelencia" Series Dew Point Meters.

Each and every 'excelencia' Dew Point Meter goes through a lengthy factory Calibration procedure to ensure the better accuracy of measurement and analysis. The entire calibration process conducted within controlled laboratory environment and with NIST certified Reference measuring instruments.

Dew Point Temperature is calibrated as a function of Temperature and Relative humidity. Relative humidity is also a temperature depended parameter, therefore temperature should be calibrated very precisely to maintain the overall accuracy.

Firstly, the temperature parameter is calibrated with a hot bath temperature calibrator and observes the result for every degree centigrade step change in comparison with the reference measuring instrument to optimize the accuracy of measurement within 0.05 Degree Centigrade.

Secondly, the Relative Humidity parameter is calibrated in two points; one for low Relative Humidity with the high purity XL-Grade 99.9994% Nitrogen gas and another for high Relative Humidity with saturated salt solution. Both operations are conducted within a controlled atmosphere humidity chamber.
